Cases, Two Deaths, At Philadelphia Nursing Home
Nine residents and one employee of a suburban Philadelphia
nursing home have been diagnosed with Legionnaires' disease since June 10th. Two
have died, a 75-year-old man and a 102-year-old woman. The Montgomery County
Health Department told NBC that 22 people from the nursing home were sick with
upper respiratory illnesses, including five staff members. The nursing home
opened just last October. All the residents confirmed with Legionnaires' had
lived in the "D Wing" of the center. The 70 residents on that wing
were moved to other rooms while authorities conducted an investigation and
disinfected systems. The residents were moved back into their rooms on June 18th
and 19th, after post-disinfection environmental tests were found to be negative.

Cases, One Death in Spain
Eight cases of community-acquired Legionnaires' disease
have been identified in the Barcelona area. One of the eight, an 87-year-old
man, has died. The regional health department was to investigate the cause.
